In the Route 40 and Route 24 towns, the Abingdon Sport Clips offers a free haircut to veterans on Wed., Nov. 11, 2026, if it's taking part. The closest posted free meals are in Bel Air, about 10 minutes from Abingdon and 15 to 20 minutes from Edgewood and Joppa.

Wed., Nov. 11, morning: Veterans Day ceremony at American Legion Post 39. 500 N. Hickory Ave., Bel Air. The post has not posted its 2026 time yet. The county's Veterans Commission lists 10 a.m., but last year the post served breakfast at 10 a.m. and held the ceremony at 11 a.m. Call the post at (410) 838-2603 before you go.
Sat., Nov. 14, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Veterans and Family Resource Fair. Bel Air Armory, 37 N. Main St. Free. The VA and the state help with claims, health care and more. Kids' activities and a free lunch from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Good to know

Bring proof. A military ID, VA card, DD214, or a photo of you in uniform works at most places. Applebee's also takes an American Legion or VFW card.
Dine in. Almost every free meal is dine-in only and for the person who served.
Go early or late. Lunch and dinner rushes get long on Veterans Day.
What's closed: Harford County public schools, all county library branches and post offices are closed Nov. 11.

My take

Edgewood and Joppa have lots of military families, but no restaurant there posted a 2026 deal I could confirm. Bel Air is a short trip up Route 24, and Outback lets you go on Nov. 10 if Nov. 11 is busy.
