Harford Vineyard & Winery is a small family winery at 1311 W. Jarrettsville Rd. in Forest Hill. The tasting room is open Thursday to Monday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. A $10 flight lets you try any 6 of their wines.

It's an easy date-night pick close to home. Below is what they pour, the weekly deals, and the fall events still open as of Oct. 23.

Where is Harford Vineyard & Winery?

It's at 1311 W. Jarrettsville Rd., Forest Hill, MD 21050. The phone number is 443-495-1699.

It's a farm, so the ground can be uneven. The winery asks guests to stay in the tasting room and the areas close to it. You can't walk the vineyard on your own.

What are the hours?

  • Thursday to Monday: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday and Wednesday: Closed.
  • Holiday break: The tasting room is closed Dec. 22 to Jan. 1.

Some events run later than 5 p.m. Check the event page before you go.

Who runs it?

The Mooney family. Kevin and Teresa Mooney planted their first grapes in 2003. They started with Traminette and Vidal. Merlot came in 2006.

They opened as a licensed winery in 2009. At first they sold grapes, juice and supplies to people who make wine at home. Now their son Brent runs a lot of the day-to-day with Dylan Pyon, the one other full-time worker.

The vineyard has about 3 acres of grapes. The winery is part of the Piedmont Wine Trail, a group of wineries in Harford and Baltimore counties.

What do they pour?

Wine and spirits. The winery says it makes over 25 wines and spirits. Some grapes come from their own vines. Some come from growers they trust.

Brent Mooney named these as some of the most popular wines:

  • Vidal Blanc, a light, crisp white with lemon and grapefruit notes
  • Merlot, a light dry red with cherry and cranberry notes
  • Harford Blush, a semi-sweet wine with tropical fruit notes
  • Peach Kissed, a sweet white blend
  • Murphy's Merit, a sweet, floral white blend

They also make pomace brandy. It's a lot like grappa. They have flavors like apple and Madagascar vanilla, plus two gins made from pomace brandy. Wine bottles on their online store run $20 to $30. The two cask proof brandies are $86.

Not sure what to pick? Get the flight. That's what it's for.

How much is a tasting?

These prices come from the winery's own site:

  • Wine flight: $10 for any 6 wines.
  • Pomace brandy flight: $10 for any 3 brandies.

Groups of 10 or more should call ahead. You don't need a reservation for a small group. Big groups can pay to hold tables. It's $10, $15 or $20 a person, up to 30 people.

Are there any deals?

Yes. The winery posts these weekly specials. Mention the special when you pay. They're only good from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Monday, Local Love: $5 off 2 tastings plus a cheese, cracker and salami tray. The cheese is from Daily Crisis Farms.
  • Thursday, Seniors and Veterans: Seniors 60 and up and veterans get 10% off bottles, half off a tasting and $1 off glasses of wine.
  • Friday, First Responders and Teachers: Buy one tasting flight, get one half off. The winery says this one is for everyone.
  • Sunday Funday: Board games and $1 off mixed drinks.

Want to save every time? The Wine Club is free to join. You pay for 3 wines every 3 months, in February, May, August and November. Members get 15% off bottles, half-price tastings for up to 4 people and $1 off glasses. You have to stay in for at least 2 releases, or there's a $50 fee. Shipping is only inside Maryland.

Can I bring kids, food or my dog?

  • Kids: Yes, if an adult keeps an eye on them. Ticketed events are 21 and up.
  • Food: They sell cheese and cracker trays. You can bring your own food when no food truck is there. Event pages say if outside food isn't allowed.
  • Drinks: You can bring juice or soda. No outside alcohol. That's the law.
  • Dogs: No. Only service animals.
