Historic Jerusalem Mill Village in Kingsville, MD: Hours, Blacksmith Shop, Trails and History
Published Oct. 30, 2026 | Last updated: Oct. 30, 2026
Historic Jerusalem Mill Village is a free living history village at 2813 Jerusalem Rd. in Kingsville, on the Little Gunpowder Falls near Fallston. The grounds are open sunrise to sunset. The 1772 grist mill museum is open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sundays and Mondays from 1 to 4 p.m.
Here's why I like it. You can watch a blacksmith work, walk into an old general store museum and hit the trails, all in one stop and all without a ticket.
What is Jerusalem Mill Village?
Jerusalem Mill Village is an 18th and 19th century mill village. It sits inside Gunpowder Falls State Park, and the restored grist mill is also the park's headquarters.
A group of volunteers, the Friends of Jerusalem Mill, runs the village. They formed in 1985 to save the village's historic buildings. They work with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources to preserve the village and teach its history.
What's the history?
The heart of the village is the original grist mill, built in 1772. The Friends have restored the mill, the Miller's House, the Blacksmith Shop, McCourtney's General Store, the bank barn, the tenant house and the nearby Jericho Road Covered Bridge. Work on the Lee Mansion is still going. For the full story, see the history videos on the About Us page.
What can you see?
Here's what the Friends list as open to the public. Hours depend on volunteers, so confirm before you go.

Does it cost anything?
No. The grounds and the open buildings are free. The Friends ask for a donation to help keep the place going.
Can you hike there?
Yes. The village connects to miles of trails along the Little Gunpowder Falls. They're open to hikers, bikers and horses. Grab a free trail map at the Visitor Center or the parking lot kiosk. The Jericho Road Covered Bridge is nearby too.
Where do you park?
There's a 24-car paved lot in the village, plus a few spaces in the circle in front of the mill. For special events, grass fields open for overflow parking. From I-95, take Exit 74 and head west on Route 152 (Mountain Road) about 2 miles. Turn left on Jerusalem Road across from Mountain Branch Golf Course and go about 1 mile.
What events happen there?
- Music in the Meadow: Sunday evening concerts from May through September. Bring chairs and a picnic. The 2026 price was $15, with kids under 12 free.
- Blacksmith School: Two-day beginner classes on weekends, with up to four students per class. The price is $350. You must register.
- Field trips: Hands-on history programs for school groups, starting in grade 4.
Check the events calendar before you go.
