SAMPLE - Havre de Grace Promenade (new style)
Published Oct. 30, 2026 | Last updated: Oct. 30, 2026
Picture this. You walk out on wooden boards over the water. Waterfowl drift by. At the end stands a granite tower that has watched this river since 1827. That is the walk from Tydings Park to Concord Point Lighthouse.
The lighthouse is closed November through March, except for special events. So if you go this winter, plan on the walk and the views. Save the climb for spring.

What is the Havre de Grace Promenade?
The Promenade is a boardwalk with a view of the Susquehanna River. It sits next to Tydings Park, the Decoy Museum, the Maritime Museum and Concord Point Lighthouse.
The city's tourism site says visitors come to watch waterfowl and read signs about the Chesapeake Bay.
Here's my favorite part. You can link a museum, a lighthouse and a waterfront walk in one easy outing.

Tap a stop to see what's there.
Tydings Park
Picnic areas, a playground and the entrance to the Promenade.
The Promenade boardwalk
About 3/4 of a mile over the water. Watch for waterfowl and read the signs about the Chesapeake Bay.
Havre de Grace Maritime Museum
Also on the waterfront, along the way.
Havre de Grace Decoy Museum
Right by the Promenade. Read my Decoy Museum guide.
Concord Point Lighthouse
27 granite steps, then an 8-rung iron ladder to the lantern. Free in season.
What is Concord Point Lighthouse?
Concord Point Lighthouse is a 30-foot granite tower in Concord Point Park. It overlooks the spot where the Susquehanna River meets the Chesapeake Bay. The group that runs it, the Friends of Concord Point Lighthouse, shares these facts:
- Built in 1827 by John Donahoo
- Made of local Port Deposit granite, with walls 3 feet thick at the base
- The first keeper was John O'Neill, a hero of the War of 1812
- The light was automated in 1920 and taken out of service in 1975
- The keeper's house was built in 1827 too, about 200 feet from the tower
Can you climb Concord Point Lighthouse?
Yes, and it's free during the season. Inside you climb 27 granite steps and then an 8-rung iron ladder to the lantern. You must be at least 42 inches tall to climb to the top.
