Farm by farm
Jones Family Farm (Edgewood and Street)
The patch runs Oct. 1 to 31. The Edgewood farm is at 2100 Philadelphia Rd., at Rt. 7 and Edgewood Rd. It's open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. You get U-pick pumpkins, a sunflower walk, a corn maze with a scavenger hunt and a prize, and scarecrow making if you bring old clothes. Some Saturdays have a food truck.
The Street stand is at 3500 Prospect Rd. (Rt. 543). U-pick runs Thursday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in October.
One rule: the field closes in the rain. Call first at 410-676-3709. Updates go on the Jones Family Farm Facebook page. If you live near Edgewood, this is your easy pick.
Brad's Farm Market (Churchville)
Brad's is at 550 Asbury Rd., Churchville. Every fall weekend they run free hayrides out to the U-pick pumpkin field. Sunday, Oct. 25 is the last one, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Pick as many as you want. They give you baskets and wagons. Back at the barn they weigh your pumpkin, so the family can argue about who found the biggest one.
They also have a corn maze ($7.50, ages 4 and up). I break that down in my corn maze guide. Brad's also sells Broom's Bloom ice cream, which is a solid reward for hauling pumpkins. Call (410) 734-4769.
Falling Branch Farm & Brewery (Street)
PumpkinFest wraps up Sunday, Oct. 25, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. It's free to get in. Kids get the pumpkin patch, an easy free corn maze, hayrides and animals. Adults get the farm brewery. The patch and maze are also open Fridays in October, 1 to 6 p.m. 825 Highland Rd., Street. Phone (443) 939-4605.
Lohr's Orchard (Rt. 22 stand)
Lohr's has been a Harford farm since 1928. Their Rt. 22 stand at 3301 Churchville Rd., Aberdeen is open daily (Mon. to Sat. 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sun. 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.). The Snake Lane farm store is closed for the season. Lohr's posts pick-your-own updates only on Facebook. Confirm before you go: check with the host before heading out. Call 410-734-0446.
FarmFinity at Stone View Farm (Darlington)
FarmFinity has a corn maze, pumpkin patch, hayrides and farm animals. Its everyday fall hours for this week are not posted where I could check. The one date I could confirm is the Trick or Treat Halloween event on Sat., Oct. 31, noon to 5 p.m. Confirm before you go: check with the host before heading out. Call (667) 415-3221.

Just over the county line
- Maple Border Farm, White Hall (Baltimore County): Final weekend is Fri. Oct. 30 and Sat. Oct. 31. Halloween hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets drop to $12 that weekend. No pets. mapleborderfarm.com
- Beachmont, Kingsville (Baltimore County): Corn maze, not a pumpkin patch, but open Fri. and Sat. nights well past Halloween. See my Beachmont guide.
Tips before you go
- Call if it rained. Wet fields close. Jones says so right on its site.
- Wear boots. Fields stay muddy for a day after rain.
- Go early on Sunday. It's the last weekend day for hayrides at Brad's and for PumpkinFest.
- Bring a wagon for little kids. Some fields are a long walk.
